Blah, blah, blah

protesting becomes trespassing

Danny Glover is a big union supporter, especially of unite-here’s hotel workers rising campaign. Today he and two unite-here organizers were convicted of trespassing during a rally on Sept. 16, 2006 at the Ontario “Sheraton on the Falls” hotel.

“It is sad that even though the police acknowledged everyone was well behaved and did not press charges, a rich and powerful company can pay to go forward with a private prosecution,” said UNITE HERE Canadian Co-Director Alex Dagg. “It raises serious questions for all of us who believe in fairness and equality before the law but it will, in no way, deter us from continuing to stand up for what is right.”

Sheraton on the Falls and the two other hotels owned by Canadian Niagara Hotels were unionized in July 2006, but the company refused to respect its contract–not allowing people to put in a full day’s work for a full day’s wage.
