On Aug. 1, during a town hall meeting in St. Petersburg, Fla., the crowd asks Obama tough questions on how he has responded and how he will act on issues disproportionately affecting Black communities; e.g., police brutality, racial profiling and the murder of Sean Bell by undercover NYC cops.
Obama said [02:59] he put out a statement after the police murdered Sean Bell — this happened on Nov. 25, 2006. There is no such statement on his senate website. Where else would he issue his statement?
Only thing I can find is that 10 days after Bell’s death, when prompted by reporters, Obama said the dozens of bullets fired by five officers “strikes me as excessive,” adding that police operate with restraint 99 percent of the time, though “this may be one of the times they did not.”
